Part of U.S. Highway 31 through Brewton could be closed for a short time while the Alabama Department of Transportation resurfaces the road, Mayor Ted Jennings announced Tuesday.
The road will be resurfaced from the railroad tracks to Tiger Drive, Jennings told council members in their regular meeting.
ALDOT has asked that traffic be rerouted down Evergreen when work is done between Evergreen and Underwood Street.
The work is expected to begin in about three weeks.
Meanwhile, a different sort of refurbishing will continue along U.S. 31 as Salter Signs finishes up its final Hurricane Ivan rebuilding project for billboards along the highway.
Brewton is one of the last communities for rebuilding for Salter, Riley said.
