Mrs. Margaret Wilson Stokes Hessler, 90, of McMillan Avenue, died Friday, Oct. 13, 2006, at a local hospital after an extended illness. She was a native and life long resident of Brewton and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Brewton First Baptist Church where she was involved with the Happy Hearts, Women's Mission Union and Fidelis Sunday School Class. She was a member of the Brewton Civic League, Meadorwood Garden Club and the Women's Bridge Club. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Bennie Stokes and her second husband, Richard Hessler; a son, Fred Stokes; a son, Fred Stokes and an infant son who died at birth.
She is survived by two sons, Ben “Buddy” (Alice) Stokes III of Mobile and Roy (Bobbie) Stokes of Brewton; three daughters, Doris (Jerry) Stokes Keese of Flomaton and Carolyn Stokes Jennings and Kaki (Alan) Baker, both of Brewton; 19 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren and three great, great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 16, at 10:30 a.m. at Brewton First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jack Fitts, the Rev. John Finklea and the Rev. Jerry Keese officiating. Burial followed at Union Cemetery in Brewton with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Brewton directing. Active pallbearers were Martin Broomes, B.F. Stokes IV, Steven Stokes, Bill Stokes, David Stokes, John Stokes, Philip Jennings, Steve Jennings, David Jennings and Dr. Bob Hayes. Honorary pallbearers were James Rodric Lynn, Tommy Wilson, Billy Wilson, Jerry Wilson, James Aubrey Wilson, Frank Barnes and Dale Weise.
