Mr. James Loyd “Blue Jim” Portwood, 66, of Appleton Road, died Sunday, Oct. 29, 2006 in a local hospital after an extended illness. He was a native and long time resident of Brewton and former resident of Houston, Texas. He was of the Assembly of God faith, a U.S. Army veteran, a member of American Legion and a singer, songwriter and musician. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Ethel Portwood; two brothers, William Mason Portwood and Glen Portwood; and two sisters, Glenda Fay Portwood and Sara Frankie Haveard.
He is survived by two sons, Dewayne (Brenda) Portwood of Brewton, and Sammy (Misty) Portwood of Flomaton; one brother, Billy Portwood of Brewton; two sisters, Betty Hammac and Ellen Godwin, both of Brewton; six grandchildren, Tristan Portwood, Meghann Hultz, Katie Hultz, Nikki Butts and Casey Butts and one great-grandson, Ashtin Powell.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 1, at 2 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. James Meadows and speaker Debra Freeman officiating. Burial will follow at Weaver Cemetery on Appleton Road with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.
