Voters will go to the polls Tuesday to elect candidates to statewide and local offices.
On the ballot are constitutional offices including governor, lieutenant governor and secretary of state as well as local legislative offices.
The most contentious local races have been the state Senate District 22 race between incumbent Democrat Pat Lindsey and Republican challenger John McMillan, as well as the District 66 House race between incumbent Democrat F.P. “Skippy” White and Republican Alan Baker.
White had out-raised and out-spent Baker, according to their latest campaign finance reports filed 10 days before the election.
But McMillan pulled ahead of Lindsey, raising $369,600 since his last campaign finance report 45 days before the election. Lindsey raised $143,577. Part of McMillan's money came directly from the Republican party, which has targeted the seat among others in a bid to take control of the Senate.
Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. throughout Escambia County.
Gov. Bob Riley has been leading in the polls against his Democratic challenger, Lt. Gov. Lucy Baxley. The lieutenant governor's race pits former Gov. Jim Folsom, a Democrat, against Republican lobbyist Luther Strange.
