Students raise funds for Heart Association

W.S. Neal Elementary students recently participated in a Jump Rope for Heart event that was held to raise money for the American Heart Association.
Randy Denton served as coordinator for the event with assistance from Dewan Salter, co-coordinator. A total of $2059 was raised by 32 fundraisers.
Nicholas Laster took top honors in fund-raising efforts with $500 raised. Second place honors went to Adria Barnett with $156 raised. Karissa Johnson earned a third-place position by raising $125. Fourth and fifth place awards went to a brother and sister team of Ana and Juan Jimenez. Each of the two raised $121.
Other students participating in the fundraising event were Brittaney Padgett, Sarah Jordan, Marcus Simmons, Auburn Jernigan, Harley Fuqua, Michaela Sanders, Hope Waldrep, Haley Dubose, Ashley Dakota Blake Riley, Ashley Evans, Austin Brantley, Chelsea Drakeford, Kristin Tidwell, Lois Looker, Madison Winchester, Michael Taylor, Tanaisha Jones, Faith Williamson, Colton Young, James Fuqua, Ashley Fleming, Jody Busby, Kendall Clayton, Justin Sessions, Taylor McGraw, Samara Parker and Bolin Kennedy.
Denton, who has taught at W.S. Neal Elementary for 25 years, has headed up the fund-raising efforts for the American Heart Association for the 18 years the program has been held at the school.
Students who participated in the event were given rewards for their efforts. Prizes were distributed among the winners during a special assembly held at the school on Monday afternoon.
Laster was presented with a plaque in addition to many other prizes awarded by The American Heart Association.
