While most newly elected political officials will have to wait until January to take office, Alan Baker was introduced to his position as the District 66 state representative just five hours after the polls closed on Nov. 7.
Baker said he has already attended meetings on committee assignments as well as other meetings in the district,
All of this action has been going on, even before Baker has been officially sworn into the office. The swearing in will be taking place in the district in the coming weeks, Baker said.
That swearing in ceremony will be official only for the Baldwin County portion of the district. Another ceremony to officially install Baker to his new position for the Escambia County portion of the district will be held Nov. 29.
Baker will continue to attend meetings and other functions in his official capacity. He will also be attending a special orientation for newly elected officials in Tuscaloosa during the first week of December.
The first legislative session that Baker will attend is scheduled for March 2007.
