Thanksgiving Day means different things to different people. Some just like to have a day off from work while others plan big meals and football games in the afternoon. But the reason to celebrate the day goes back to the simple basics: Thanksgiving is a day to give thanks.
Several people were waiting in line to give blood at the latest American Red Cross drive on Tuesday, at First Baptist Church of Brewton. When asked what were they thankful for, most had similar answers.
Ruby Faircloth of Brewton, who was registering potential donors summed it up.
Gene Weaver, who lives on Highway 29 near Harold Mill community, says he is very thankful this year. “I am just thankful to be here,” he said. “All my family will be home this year and it will be good to see them all.”
Janie Chamberlin also said she was thankful for family. “I am thankful for my children and my grandchildren,” she said. “I am also thankful for my country and what it stands for. My family will be home for Thanksgiving and for that I am thankful. I also am thankful for my church and its family.”
Jennings W. Warn Sr. of Brewton, summed it all up very well. “I am thankful for the Grace of God,” he said. “Even though the world looks black sometimes, He is always the Light. I am also thankful that I will get to see my family.”
