Thanksgiving was a lot more stressful for two families who lost their homes to fires on Tuesday and Wednesday, Nov. 21 and 22.
Tuesday night the Brewton Fire Department responded to a call at 121 Auction Street where the home of William and Granada Lovelace was engulfed in flames.
Rogene Martin, director of East Escambia Chapter of the American Red Cross, stated the house would probably be considered a total loss based on what she saw following the incident.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
A second fire call was answered on Wednesday morning at about 8:30 a.m. as the Ridge Road Volunteer Fire Department responded to a fire at 209 Downs Lane in the Springhill community.
The double-wide mobile home of John and Ruby Miller was fully involved. The East Brewton Fire Department also responded to assist in battling the blaze.arriving at about 8:40 a.m. The departments remained on the scene until after 11:30 a.m.
Firefighters used water from pumper trucks to fight the blaze and also was able to access a fire hydrant located down the street to aid in the fight.
Unlike the residents at the fire on Auction Street the night before, the Miller family had insurance on their home, according to Rogene Martin, of the American Red Cross.
