Byrne gets Top Tiger
Award at Memphis
Former T.R. Miller Tigers quarterback/kicker Patrick Byrne was honored by the University of Memphis, as he received the team's Top Tiger Award for the 2006 season. Byrne shared the award with Derek Clenin.
Byrne handled kickoff duties for Memphis during his freshman and sophomore seasons with the Tigers prior to landing the starting quarterback job as a junior. Byrne suffered a broken leg on the opening series of the 2005 season opener against Mississippi, an injury that sidelined him the rest of the season.
Byrne served most of the 2006 season in a backup role at quarterback and the injury limited his kicking duties. However, Byrne was given the starting nod at quarterback in Memphis' home finale against Houston and performed kickoff duties in the season finale against Texas-El Paso.
Byrne is currently attending graduate school at Memphis. He received a degree in marketing management in May.
