Brewton city officials accepted a rate increase from Allied Waste Tuesday - but they will absorb the cost rather than passing it on to residents, Mayor Ted Jennings said.
The rate increase amounts to about 42 cents per customer, Jennings said.
Also Tuesday, city council members approved liquor license renewals for area businesses, but excluded Ace of Hearts from that list temporarily. Councilman Henry Uptagrafft said neighbors have had problems with trash around the business.
Council members also approved the name change from Scooter's Lounge to Confusion Lounge on that business's liquor license.
Council members also extended Christmas greetings to each other, city employees and residents.
