Three people were injured in a welding mishap Friday afternoon, sending all three by LifeFlight to out-of-town hospitals.
Joey Wyatt of East Brewton and his daughter, Tory, received severe burns when a tank exploded at a scrap yard in the McLellan community, near the Florida line.
Another male at the site was also injured in the mishap, but his identity was not immediately known.
According to witnesses at the scene, Wyatt and the unidentified man were cutting a tank for scrap when an explosion occurred.
The explosion and the subsequent blast ignited an unknown liquid, which burned until members of the Roberts Volunteer Fire Department, and other bystanders could extinguish the blaze.
Baptist LifeFlight transported the unidentified man first, witnesses said, due to the severity of his injuries.
Although witnesses on the scene said the Wyatts' injuries were not life threatening, immediate attention was required in the treatment of their burns.
Paramedics on the scene evaluated the injuries; however, it was not immediately revealed whether the trio were transported to Mobile's USA Medical Center Burn Unit or the specialty center at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola.
The extent of injuries was unavailable at press time.
