Learning proper nutrition is an important lesson for young and old alike.
The Alabama cooperative Extension System, a United Fund recipient, offers various nutrition education programs.
With the D.O.T. program, youth are taught phases of nutrition that are age specific, Walker said. Individuals learn what foods are needed for good health.
A Food Smart program is also offered by the Extension System with Walker at the helm.
Walker said the United Fund monies made available to the System make the nutrition programs possible.
The United Fund donation campaign is currently underway with a goal of $90,000 to support programs beneficial to community residents.
Currently, the thermometer displayed in the Brewton City Park shows contributions holding near the $50,000 mark. Contributions will be accepted through mid January.
Fourteen agencies are included in the distribution of collected donations. For information on contributing to United Fund, contact any United Fund board member or your employer. Mail contributions to: United Fund of Brewton and East Brewton, P.O. Box 34, Brewton, AL 36427.
