Mr. Houston Johnson, 70, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2006, in California. He was a native of Conecuh County, a former resident of Brewton, and a long time resident of Los Angeles. He was a 1957 graduate of Southern Normal School and attended Tuskegee Institute. He pursued a career in acting in Los Angeles where he was in several shows and was a part-time, stand by, stunt man. He established the Johnson Construction Company, attended College of the Canyons and became a successful real estate investor. He was a member of the Los Angeles Douglas Masonic Lodge 33 and developed his poetry writing skills. He shared some of his work at Kwanzaa and Black History functions.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Willie Mae Johnson; a daughter, Holly Yvette Johnson; five brothers, Charlie Johnson and Anderson Johnson, both of Brooklyn, Hiliria (Ruby) Johnson and John (Betty) Johnson, both of Brewton, and Willie (Daisy) Johnson of Los Angeles; a sister, Matilda (Alex) Stevens of Brewton and a host of other friends and family.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 23, at 11 a.m. at Sandy Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Evergreen, with the Rev. Willie J. Blue officiating. Burial followed at Sandy Grove Church Cemetery with Presley-Fluker Funeral Home directing.
