Zackery Claude Thomas Kiser has an air of distinction about him.
Kiser is Brewton's first-born baby of 2007. In fact, he was the first baby born in all of Escambia County for 2007.
The newborn made an entrance to the world at D.W. McMillan Hospital at 12:06 p.m. on New Year's Day. He weighed 5 pounds, 11 ounces and was 18 inches long upon his arrival.
Scottie Kiser, father of the newborn, was all smiles when he referred to his son.
A special New Year's gift basket was given to the family by McMillan Hospital in recognition of the special birth.
Grandparents of the child are John and Brenda Mitchell of Flomaton and Stoney and Patricia Kiser of Brewton. Great-grandparents are Bo and Ann Mitchell of Pace, Brenda and James Crane of Haleyville, Myrtle and Junior Treese of Brewton, the late Bart and Lou Essie White, the late Thomas Boutwell and the late Claude Kiser.
The parents expect to be taking a trip home to East Brewton with their new family member on Thursday, Scottie said.
An Atmore woman gave birth on New Year's Day; however, the delivery was at a Baldwin County hospital, giving Kiser the honored title of first newborn of the year for Escambia County.
