Mrs. Martha Sowell Monk, 85, died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2006, at a Rome, Ga. hospital. She was a native of Flomaton, and resided there all her life except for a few years in Georgia. She was employed for 44 years as a teacher with the Florida School System. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Flomaton. She was preceded in death by her husband, W.A. Monk; their grandson, James Allen Foster Jr. and her son-in-law, James Allen Foster Sr.
She is survived by her daughters, Cecilia (Ronnie) Kent of Menlo, Ga., and Marilyn Foster of Brantley; two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 29, at 11 a.m. at Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Evangelista and the Rev. Ray Lane. Burial followed at Flomaton Cemetery with Flomaton Funeral Home directing. Pallbearers were Hank Coleman, Johnny Harrell, Joe Brantley, Chris Justice, Greg Brock, Dewey Bondurant Jr. Honorary pallbearers were Jimmy Justice, A.N. Nolin and Mike Edwards.
