Throughout the season the W.S. Neal Lady Blue Eagles have looked for somebody to emerge as a leader.
They may have found that someone Monday in the person of sophomore Rachel Davis.
Davis not only turned in a double-double of 15 points and 20 rebounds, she stepped up when her team needed her the most in Monday's 40-37 home win over the Northview, Fla. Lady Chiefs.
W.S. Neal's win snapped a seven-game losing streak and enabled the Lady Blue Eagles (6-14) to match their win total from a year ago.
Monday's game was the rubber match between W.S. Neal and Northview. The Lady Blue Eagles won a 38-35 decision in Florida Dec. 11, while Northview prevailed 43-32 at the W.S. Neal Invitational 10 days later.
The Lady Chiefs had a 28-25 lead headed into the fourth quarter when Davis, who had scored just four points in the previous three frames, stepped up with an 11-point quarter that included five field goals and a free throw. Davis' production sent the Lady Blue Eagles on a decisive 15-9 run in the fourth quarter.
W.S. Neal's surge was actually even more decisive. Northview scored just six points in the quarter until the Lady Chiefs hit a three-point just before time expired.
Freshman Freida Folmar provided W.S. Neal a first half spark. Folmar had 10 of her 13 points in the first half where the Lady Blue Eagles built a 20-15 halftime lead.
Northview charged back in the third quarter with a 13-5 run that gave it the 28-25 advantage headed into the final stanza.
W.S. Neal, which visited Frisco City Tuesday, hosts Red Level Thursday and closes out the Class 4A Area 2 season Friday with a trip to Hillcrest-Evergreen.
