All but two of the water systems in Escambia County use fluoridated water, and all but one community has become smoke-free.
That almost accomplishes two of the major goals of the Coalition for a Healthier Escambia County - but the group is not resting on its laurels.
Harrell said the group also plans to work toward getting the other two water systems fluoridated - and coalition members will be considering new goals as they begin another year.
The coalition - made up of various stakeholders in healthcare and emergency management in the county - meets monthly to pool information and share goals and ideas.
One of the goals this year will be to help support and raise funds for the Wheels of Wellness, a van that will be used to transport children and pregnant mothers to out-of-town medical appointments if they need assistance. The program, which started out as Birmingham-based KidOne Transport, will now be run locally, Harrell said.
