Fountain joins football staff at Iowa State
New Iowa State Cyclones coach Gene Chizik has added former W.S. Neal Blue Eagle Scott Fountain to his staff as tight ends coach.
Fountain, who graduated from W.S. Neal in 1984, coached with Chizik and Iowa State offensive coordinator Robert McFarland while all three were at Central Florida.
Fountain spent the 2006 season as assistant head coach and offensive line coach at Georgia Southern. Georgia Southern's offensive line allowed just six sacks last season, the fewest in the country, under Fountain's direction.
Prior to last season Fountain had a two-year stint as offensive line coach at Middle Tennessee State. The Blue Raiders' offense finished second in the Sun Belt Conference in passing offense and fourth in total offense and scoring offense in 2005. Three of his linemen earned all-conference honors.
Fountain coached offensive tackles and tight ends for six years at Central Florida. He also served as the program's recruiting coordinator. Fountain broke into college coaching at Florida State where he spent three years as a graduate assistant offensive line coach for Bobby Bowden. The Seminoles won the Atlantic Coast Conference championship in each of those three seasons.
Fountain is the son of Hugh and Gayle Fountain of East Brewton.
