FUMC hosting mission auction

When a small group of First United Methodist Church members heads to Costa Rica this year on a mission trip, the Rev. Ed Glaize hopes they have an entire community behind them.
The church is planning a special auction Thursday to help raise money for the trip, during which First Methodist members will help supply wheelchairs to families in need.
Items ranging from gift baskets to weekend getaways will be part of the silent auction at the church from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Chili will also be for sale.
Glaize found out about the wheelchair mission from a fellow Methodist minister. The project helps families who have no other means of finding wheelchairs for children and adults with disabilities.
While many people consider Costa Rica to be a vacation spot, the country actually has great needs, he said.
And Glaize said the church understands there continue to be needs in Brewton - and they will work to reach out locally as well.
