Jim Byrd is passing the torch.
After 34 years of service with Southern Pine Electric Cooperative, Byrd has decided to retire.
Family, friends and colleagues attended a special reception held in Byrd's honor Friday at the headquarters of Southern Pine on South Boulevard in Brewton.
Robbie Cotton, engineering supervisor at Southern Pine, said Byrd certainly deserves the enjoyment of retirement.
Well-wishers came from Evergreen, Frisco City and Atmore, all service areas of Southern Pine Cooperative.
A table held an array of memorabilia, all items that depicted some of Byrd's achievements and service during his tenure with the company.
As Byrd passes the torch, Vince Johnson will be taking over the managerial duties of the cooperative.
Johnson most recently served as member services director for the cooperative. He assumed his duties as manager on Feb. 1.
