Tigers have to rebuild starting lineup

If T.R. Miller Tigers football coach Jamie Riggs ran a help wanted ad before his team's spring training began, it might read something like this: &#8220Wanted: 11 offensive and defensive starters. No experience necessary.”
T.R. Miller kicked off its spring training Tuesday with plenty of lineup questions. The Tigers return just three offensive starters and only one defensive starter from last season's Class 4A Region 1 championship team that went 10-2 and advanced to the second round of the playoffs.
One plus for Riggs and his staff in their quest to fill those spots is numbers are up.
T.R. Miller's numbers have gotten a boost from a larger than usual incoming freshmen class.
For all intent, Riggs considers all spots to be open. What little experience the Tigers have on the offensive side of the ball is up front where T.R. Miller returns linemen Wes McLellan, Sam Pendergrass and Mabry Cook.
Riggs admits he and his staff will have to take a much slower approach this spring.
While the players who run it will be different, Riggs plans on keeping the wing-t in his offensive scheme. That formation was installed into the system last season.
T.R. Miller had all of its players in camp when spring training began Tuesday.
players missing from basketball, but the only varsity basketball players who play football, Terrence Walker and Jamal Middleton, are both seniors. The junior varsity basketball players ended their season Monday so we didn't have any conflict there,” said Riggs.
Basketball could conflict T.R. Miller's schedule at the end. The Tigers are currently scheduled to play their Red/White intrasquad scrimmage game Feb. 21. The opening round of the Class 4A southwest boys and girls basketball regional is also that day.
