The ride is rough now, but visions of a smooth journey are dancing in the heads of those who travel along Douglas Avenue.
Alabama Highway Department personnel and machinery took command of Douglas Avenue Wednesday, as milling of the road began to make way for fresh pavement.
Howard said the state project is to resurface U.S. Highway 31 through Brewton south to near Peach Ford.
Howard said weather would have a strong bearing on the ability for project to move quickly.
Bullard Excavating of Andalusia is the contracted company responsible for the resurfacing project along U.S. 31.
Howard said drivers should be watching for detours and flagmen along Douglas Avenue to South Boulevard through the project area.
Flagmen will be on hand to direct traffic that must be rerouted due to the resurfacing project.
No specific date for completion has been announced.
