Lady Warhawks win pair at Dothan Tournament

They may have wound up only 2-4 for the weekend, but Jefferson Davis Community College Lady Warhawks softball coach Misti Nims saw plenty of positives from her team at the Wallace State-Dothan Tournament played over the weekend.
Perhaps the biggest story for JDCC (3-5) was the performance by pitcher Kim Carter, who had to pitch all six games.
The Lady Warhawks opened play Saturday with a 9-1 loss to Chipola, Fla.
JDCC was held to just two hits, a double by Tiffany Cayson and a single by Tanna Fontes.
The Lady Warhawks bounced back with a 5-2 win over Darton in game two.
Fontes had a couple of hits and scored twice to spark the offense. Kayla Galloway, Amanda Pullen and Jodi Lisenby all had singles.
Carter threw a five-hitter for the win.
JDCC finished day one with a 1-0 win over Jefferson State.
The Lady Warhawks won despite the fact they only had two hits, a singles by Fontes and Jerri Edwards.
The lone run came when Galloway was hit by a pitch, stole second, went to third on a passed ball and scored on another passed ball.
Carter twirled a three-hit shutout and struck out two for the win.
JDCC began day two with a 7-4 loss to Alabama Community College south division rival Alabama Southern.
The Lady Warhawks, who committed nine errors, took a 4-2 lead with a four-run rally in the top of the fourth only to see Alabama Southern storm back with five decisive runs in the bottom half of the inning.
Cayson had a pair of singles and a double to lead JDCC's hitting, while Chasity Nicholson had a double and two RBIs. Jayla Davis had a single and a double, while Brittany Bradshaw added a single.
Wallace State-Dothan blanked the Lady Warhawks 8-0 in game two.
JDCC trailed just 1-0 before Wallace State-Dothan scored seven runs in the bottom of the fifth to win the game on the mercy rule.
Fontes had the lone hit for the Lady Warhawks, a single.
JDCC ended play with a 2-0 loss to Wallace State-Hanceville.
The Lady Warhawks, who struck out 15 times, got a single from Erica Davis and Lisenby.
JDCC is back in action Saturday when it hosts LSU-Eunice for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
