Three young recyclers addressed the Brewton City Council Tuesday during the regular meeting.
Kelsey Clayton presented a folder filled with signed petitions from students, parents and residents, who are in favor of reinstating a recycling program in Brewton.
Clayton, a fourth-grade student at Brewton Elementary School, was joined by classmate Anna Catherine Wilson and fifth-grade student, Fred Grice to make the presentation. Madalyn Weaver, also a fourth-grade student at BES and involved in the project, was unable to attend Tuesday's meeting.
Mayor Ted Jennings responded to the possibility of a recycling program and gave details on why the program was discontinued in Brewton.
Jennings said since the current garbage pick-up contract would be up for reconsideration at the end of the summer, some research would be done to see if the program could begin under different circumstances.
