Brewton is facing a major renovation of wastewater treatment for the city - or it will face fines.
Greg Stevens, a representative with CD&G Engineers, addressed the city council during Tuesday's meeting with findings of a study made concerning the wastewater treatment program.
Stevens, along with other engineers with his firm, said Brewton has some options that will eliminate those citations.
Stevens said the city has an opportunity with either of these options to get in compliance with ADEM and upgrade the current wastewater treatment facility. The changes would also include adequate capacity for future use of the system.
Stevens said sewer rehab is important, but currently the wastewater treatment plant represents a higher priority due to being a high environmental risk and environmental liability.
Brewton councilmen agreed to respond to ADEMs request for a plan and evaluate the best course of action during the next 30 days.
