Miller finishes in top spot at JDCC math tournament

The 2007 Jefferson Davis Mathematics Tournament was held on Thursday, January 25, on the campus of Jefferson Davis Community College in Brewton, Alabama. Six high schools and a total of 126 students participated in the daylong event. Teams competed for trophies and awards on a thirty-five-question exam and sixteen &#8220quick answer” cipher questions.
T. R. Miller High School of Brewton captured the first place trophy. Other schools receiving trophies were Escambia Academy, second place; Sparta Academy, third place; and Escambia County High School, fourth place. Also participating were Flomaton High School and Atmore Christian School.
Individual awards went to the following students:
Mitchell McMillan, T.R. Miller High School; Dustin Brown, Escambia Academy; Ashleigh Jones, T.R. Miller High School; John Hyde, Sparta Academy; Brad Smith, T.R. Miller High School; Drayton Rodgers, Sparta Academy; Courtney Bruley, Escambia Academy; Blake Kirk, Escambia Academy; Ryan Classen, Atmore Christian School; Trey Smith, Escambia County High School
Team sponsors were: Escambia Academy – Laurie Moore; T.R. Miller High School – Elaine King; Sparta Academy – Sally Anthony; Atmore Christian School – Jerry Stahly; Flomaton High School – Scott Hammond; Escambia County High School – Jennifer Laurie.
The tournament was directed by Jefferson Davis Community College instrustors Mike Tedder, Allen Gainer, and Loletta Redmon with assistance from the JDCC Honors students, SGA representatives, and Phi Theta Kappa students.
