Mr. Chesley &#8220Pete” Smith, 70, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2007, at a Pensacola hospital. He was a lifetime resident of the Flomaton community and a native of Barnett Cross Roads. During his working years he worked as a correctional officer at the Fountain Correctional Institution. He was a member of Atmore Baptist Temple and was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar Steven and Myrtis Johnson Smith and his brother, Chester Smith.
He is survived by his son, Darren Smith of Flomaton, and a nephew, Benny (Bobbie) Snyder of Brewton.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 20, at 10 a.m. at Flomaton Funeral Home with the Rev. Doug Odom and the Rev. Ralph Morgan officiating. Burial followed at New Bethlehem Cemetery at Barnett Cross Roads with Flomaton Funeral Home directing. Pallbearers were Melvin Turner, Paul Lee, Millard Brock, Buster Crapps, J.C. Moye and Mike Lambert.
