Jackson wins MVP, reaches 1,000 points
While Saturday was a big day for the T.R. Miller Tigers basketball team from a team standpoint, it was also a big individual day for senior Wade Jackson.
Jackson received the Class 4A South Regional Tournament Most Valuable Player Award. It was Jackson's third MVP Award of the season. He also received the top individual award at the Escambia County Tournament and the Area Tournament.
Jackson led the Tigers in scoring at the regional with 32 points. Fourteen of those came in Saturday's regional championship victory over Andalusia.
The 14th and final point for Jackson in Saturday's game, a free throw with 2:22 left, gave the 6-5 senior 1,000 career points. Jackson had eight points as a freshman, 237 as a sophomore and 415 as a junior. He has currently scored 340 points this season. Jackson is the first T.R. Miller boy to reach 1,000 career points since Neal Cheatham accomplished the feat back in the 2002-03 season.
Jackson was joined on the All-Regional team by teammate Terrelle Brooks, Andalusia's Brandon Sims and Nico Johnson, Central-Coosa's Jamal Murray and Handley's Jerome Bell.
