Anyone who witnessed the massive Habitat for Humanity blitz that saw two houses rise on Conoley Avenue in a matter of days last spring can understand why Denise Alverson and Susan Krehbiel are this year's chamber of commerce Citizens of the Year.
Alverson and Krehbiel - who also happen to be good friends and co-workers - were among the angels who helped organize the building blitz. They not only worked tirelessly behind the scenes - and made the trip to Lynchburg, Va., where the houses were framed - they also lent physical labor to the project, hammering nails along with all of the other volunteers.
Habitat for Humanity Director Alecia Glaize told chamber members how hard the pair worked - no matter the weather.
These ladies were the perfect choice for citizens of the year. They exemplify what it means to be a Brewton resident. Not only diligent workers as court reporters in Escambia County, they are also lively friends and dedicated volunteers.
We congratulate Alverson and Krehbiel for their achievement - and we hope their hard work inspires many others to reach out to help those who are in need.
