Something five years old probably does not deserve the title new anymore, but something new could be in store for the track at W.S. Neal Stadium next month when the school plans to hold its first home meet.
The breakthrough on the schedule is tentatively slated for March 13 at 3:30 p.m. when W.S. Neal hosts Monroe County and Hillcrest-Evergreen. Another team or two could be added to the lineup.
Despite the fact the track was installed when the stadium opened in 2002, many of the field event areas were not completed. Some of those events still have not been installed and will not be held during the upcoming meet.
W.S. Neal will be able to hold all running events with the possible exception of the 100, 110 and 300 meter hurdles.
Quarles indicated there is a lot more preparation to hosting a meet than just having the necessary event equipment.
Quarles admits the meet will be a learning experience for all workers.
Quarles hopes the meet is not a one-time event.
