Thespians in Brewton are on the verge of having a new outlet for their craft.
A group of local theatre lovers have joined their efforts to create the Brewton Community Theatre Company.
Gleaton, along with a board of directors, have begun planning the company's first production.
Finding a venue for productions was a challenge. However, Susan McBride, president at Jefferson Davis Community College, has given BCT an outlet for their shows.
Productions will be held in Patterson Auditorium on the campus of Jefferson Davis Community College as shows are planned and performances scheduled.
Plans for shows are a challenge since BCT is a non-profit organization and funds for the upstart of the program are limited.
Funding is an important part of a successful production, Gleaton said. Although actors wouldn't be paid for their performances, costumes, scenery, lighting, music and other items must be paid for in order to put on a good show.
Although the group hopes eventually to have a number of shows each year, the initial plans for productions are being kept at a comfortable level.
Gleaton said her original idea was to bring a children's theatre to Brewton, but in her planning she discovered adults were searching for a place as well.
The planned production of Tom Sawyer will include actors and actresses from age 10 through adult, Gleaton said.
Tyler Parker, a junior at T.R. Miller High School, is serving as what Gleaton refers to as vice president of the group.
The board of directors for BCT include Doyle Parker as chairman; Mitsy Dixon as co-chairman; Bruce Long, Joe Downing, Karen Winn, Julie Bush and Dr. Rosemary Watkins.
Brewton Community Theatre will hold their next meeting at 6 p.m. March 13 at the Brewton Public Library. The meeting is open to the public.
