On Thursday, a tornado touched down in the Wilcox County community of Millers Ferry.
One man was killed and nearly 50 homes destroyed. Most of those homes were vacation places, but about 10 families have been displaced.
The Black Belt Chapter of the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army have been providing meals, as well as other assistance to the victims and the volunteers.
But they need our help.
We've all heard about the tragedy in Enterprise, where eight students were killed when a twister ravaged the high school and the town.
Local agencies and organizations are going to be stretched thin in responding to Thursday's storm damage.
There are civic groups and no doubt churches from our area that will also make their way into these storm-damaged areas.
This is a time to reach deep and help those in need by giving to one of these groups that will be providing assistance. Let's do what we can for our neighbors. You never know when we are the ones who need help.
