WSN track boys, girls open season with third place finishes at Pace

Five runner-up individual finishes accounted for most of the 20 1/2 points the W.S. Neal Blue Eagles track team had in Tuesday's opener at Pace, Fla.
Pace won the meet with 91 1/2 points, while Jay, Fla. took second at 60 1/2 followed by W.S. Neal in third in the three-team meet.
Jonathan Alexander had three of the Blue Eagles second place marks. Alexander had a leap of 6-0 in the high jump and 18-6 in the long jump. Alexander also had a time of 11.5 in the 100-meter dash.
Brian Weatherford took second in the 800 meters with a time of 2:25, while Jeremy Nicholson was second in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles. No time was available.
Nicholson was third in the 110-meter high hurdles at 16.3, while Justin Howard was third in the long jump at 5-8. Howard also had a fourth place mark in the long jump at 16-4,
Weatherford was sixth in the 1600 meters, while Adam York also had a sixth place effort in the discus. No time or mark was available.
The Lady Blue Eagles also took third, as they tallied 13 points. Pace again won its own meet with 91 points, while Jay was second at 71.
Athena Davis was second in the 100 meters, while Lateesha Day was fourth. Day was second in the 200 meters, while Davis was third. No times were available.
April Jackson was fourth in the long jump at 14-5.
W.S. Neal will have its first home meet Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. when it entertains T.R. Miller and Monroe County.
