The Jefferson Davis Community College Lady Warhawks softball team continued to have some surprising success at Alabama Community College Conference central division power Central Alabama Tuesday, as the teams split their second twinbill of the season.
Central Alabama is 25-4 on the season, but just 2-2 against JDCC. On the flip side, the split gave the Lady Warhawks a 6-18 record.
Central Alabama posted a 6-0 win in game one. Lady Trojans pitcher Holly Ragsdale came within one batter of throwing a perfect game, but JDCC catcher Kayla Galloway spoiled it with a two-out single in the top of the seventh inning. It was the lone runner for the Lady Warhawks.
Central Alabama got the only run it needed on Amanda Harrison's RBI single in the bottom of the second. The Lady Trojans tacked on two more runs in the third and three more in the sixth.
Amberly Whitworth suffered the loss for JDCC.
The Lady Warhawks got their piece of the split with a 2-1 win in game two.
Both JDCC runs came in the top of the fourth inning. Tanna Fontes singled and went to second on a passed ball. A groundout by Galloway got Fontes over to third and another groundout, this one by Jayla Davis, brought her home. Whitworth reached on a fielder's choice, went to second by Jerri Edwards and scored on a single by Emily Davenport.
Central Alabama got a pair of singles and an RBI in the bottom half of the inning against winning hurler Kim Carter that shaved the gap to 2-1, but that was it.
Carter allowed four hits over the first four innings before Whitworth shut the door with three scoreless frames of relief.
Jayla Davis and Edwards both had two hits to lead JDCC.
