Track Tigers capture opener at WSN; WSN girls finish second

T.R. Miller came away as the top winner at the first track meet held at the W.S. Neal Stadium Tuesday.
The Tigers won six of the 13 events held and racked up 208 points overall. Monroe County took top honors in four events and edged W.S. Neal 94-93 for the runner-up spot. Monroe County won four events, while W.S. Neal won three.
The meet did not include high jump, discus, pole vault and hurdles, as W.S. Neal is still waiting on those pieces to complete their track stadium.
T.R. Miller's lone victory in the field came in the shot put where Fred Samuel posted a winning toss of 43-10.
The Tigers' individual wins on the track included Joe McCorvey in the 400 meters at 52.6, Kelly Stallworth in the 800 meters at 2:15.06, Geofry Youngblood in the 1600 meters at 5:17.31 and Brandon Nelson in the 3200 meters at 12:25.51. T.R. Miller also won the 3200-meter relay with a time of 9:24.
All three of W.S. Neal's wins came in the field. Jonathan Alexander was the only double individual winner in the boys meet, as he claimed the long jump at 20-2 and the triple jump at 40-6. Donald Peacock claimed the javelin with a heave of 148-4.
Monroe County won the girls competition with 105 points, while W.S. Neal was second with 78. T.R. Miller came in third with 50. Both W.S. Neal and T.R. Miller won three events.
The Lady Blue Eagles got a pair of wins from Rachel Davis, as she claimed the 100 meters at 12.78 and the long jump at 16-2. Betheny Migas was W.S. Neal's other winner, as she took the 800 meters at 3:28.75.
T.R. Miller's Crystal Higdon matched Davis' two wins with victories in the 1600 meters at 6:13 and the 3200 meters at 14:12. The Lady Tigers also got a win from Kesha Peterson in the triple jump at 27-9.
