Jesse Edwards may not have gotten his first at-bat until the last a-bat of the game, but it was the most important at-bat.
Edwards lined a game-winning RBI single up the middle in the bottom of the ninth that rallied the Jefferson Davis Community College Warhawks baseball team to a dramatic 8-7 win over the Enterprise-Ozark Boll Weevil Friday.
JDCC (13-12 overall and 6-4 in the Alabama Community College Conference south division) had a 5-4 lead slip away when Enterprise (6-7 in ACCC play and 8-13 overall) took advantage of three errors by the Warhawks in the top of the eighth and scored four runs to grab a 7-4 lead.
JDCC got two of those runs back in the bottom of the eighth to pull within 7-6.
The winning rally in the bottom of the ninth began with a leadoff walk to Ryan Kelley. Kelley was sacrificed to second on a bunt by Kyle Snedeker. David Washington lined his third hit of the game, a double down the leftfield line that plated Kelley with the tying run. Edwards followed with his game-winning hit up the middle.
Hunter Brown worked the final one and two-thirds innings to get the win.

Warhawks sweep Huntingdon
JDCC put the brakes on a three-game slide and got back to the .500 mark Tuesday when it swept a doubleheader at Huntingdon College. The Warhawks needed an extra frame to win the opener 6-5 in eight innings before they cruised to a 9-3 win in game two.
JDCC's winning rally in the top of the eighth began when Wade Schepper walked and went to second on a fielder's choice. A single by Kenny McDonald got Schepper over to third and he scored on a single by Fred Young. It was Young's third hit of the game, as he had half of JDCC's hit total. Hunter Brown, the fourth of four Warhawk hurlers, went the final two and two-thirds innings to get the win.
JDCC was down 1-0 after two innings in game two before it stormed back with a decisive four-run rally in the top of the third to take the lead for good.
Jake Bonds had a key two-run triple to highlight the inning, while Andrew Sawyer and Schepper both had RBI singles.
J.J. Cutler and Schepper both had RBI singles in the fourth inning when the Warhawks ran their lead up to 6-1. Huntingdon committed three errors in he fifth when JDCC tacked on two more runs to its total and increased its cushion to 8-1. George Cook had a double that continued to that rally.
Starter Robby Carlson allowed one run and two hits over the first four innings to get the win.
