Log A Load grateful for support
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of those people who stepped up and helped welcome the Miracle Miles hikers into our community on March 15, 2007. I can say without hesitation that Brewton put on the biggest event of the 286 mile hike accept for the Kick-off in Mobile and the Finale in Birmingham. Even the hikers themselves acknowledged the welcome they received in Brewton, the great food they were served, and the renewed spirit that instilled them to continue their trek northward.
Many people volunteered their time in assisting us in pre-selling and preparing 1000 barbeque plates, but I would like to especially thank Beth Billy, Bentley Martin, Thad and Lea Moore, and Anne Rilling. They are the ones who made it happen which resulted in raising over $5,000 for the Children's Hospital in Birmingham and the Children's and Women's Hospital in Mobile. And of course none of it could have happened without our great barbeque chicken cook - Chef Chubby Havard.
Not only did we raise a substantial amount of money through the Miracle Miles event - over $60,000 at last count, but we tremendously elevated the awareness of the Log A Load For Kids program which is sponsored by the loggers and forest products industry in the state. Log A Load has raised over $5,000,000 in Alabama since it began in 1992 and is done so exclusively by volunteers and with the donor being able to designate where he or she wants their money to go. Hopefully in the future when someone mentions Log A Load For Kids, everyone in Brewton will know what it is and what it does.
We have scheduled our Annual golf tournament for May 23, 2007 at the Country Club of Brewton, so if you wish to participate by either playing or being a sponsor do not hesitate to call 251-867-8375 for more information.
