Both the Cardinals and Mariners came away winners on Opening Day in the Brewton Little League age 9-10 division Saturday.
The Cardinals began their campaign with a 7-6 win over the Braves, while the Mariners downed the Royals 13-3.
While games in the 9-10 division counted in the league standings, the two games played in the Age 11-12 division were exhibition games. The Rangers came away with a split in those contests, as they beat the Astros 2-0, but lost to the Tigers 5-3.
Age 9-10
Cardinals 7, Braves 6
The Braves nearly pulled the game out when they rallied with four runs in the bottom of the fifth, but fell a run short in their comeback bid.
CARDINALS: Jones Mannings had two walks, a triple and scored two runs. Patrick Ard had two walks and scored a run. Lowell Swain had a single. Will Smith and Jake Najor both had a walk and scored a run. Noah Morris had two walks and scored two runs.
BRAVES: Keaton Parker scored two runs. Andrew Pollitte had a single and scored two runs. Larry Cheatham had a single and scored a run. Lucas Agerton had two singles. Landon Salter had a walk and scored a run.
Mariners 13, Royals 3
MARINERS: Walker Harris scored three runs. Kellyn Winn had two walks and scored a run. James peach and Carter Frezel both scored two runs. Chris Gehman, Ethan Bollenbacher and Makel Mitchell all scored a run. Christian Mancil had a double and scored two runs.
ROYALS: Chris Jones had a single and scored a run. Brandon Ingram and Troy Hart both had a walk and scored a run.
Age 11-12
Rangers 2, Astros 0
RANNGERS: Ryan Hunt had a double. Christian Purvis had two walks and scored a run. Tyler Dehoff had a double, an RBI and scored a run. Sam Smith had two singles and an RBI.
ASTROS: Cody Smith and William Whittle both had a single. Kevin Davis had a single and a double.
Tigers 5, Rangers 3
TIGERS: Rob Stokes had two singles and scored two runs. Jacob Fillmore had two walks and scored a run. Wes Maddox had three singles and scored a run. Rasheem Thomas had a single, a double and scored a run.
RANGERS: Joseph Faulk had a walk and scored a run. Ryan Hunt had a double and scored a run. Christian Purvis had a triple. Josh Maloy had a triple and scored a run.
