It began as a day where the Jefferson Davis Community College Lady Warhawks softball team could have moved up a notch in the Alabama Community College Conference south division standings.
Instead Saturday's home doubleheader loss to the Bishop State Lady Wildcats pushed the Lady Warhawks closer to the edge of the postseason bubble.
JDCC's 10-0, five-inning loss in game one and its 7-0 setback in game two were its 12th and 13th shutouts of the season.
The Lady Warhawks (3-7 in the ACCC and 10-30 overall) had just four hits in the two games combined and just one, a single by Chasity Nicholson, in the opener.
Bishop State (7-5 in the ACCC and 18-11 overall) got all it needed in game one when it strung together a four-run uprising in the top of the third inning. The Lady Wildcats made sure the game would end early when they tacked on five more runs in the fourth and an additional marker in the fifth.
Amberly Whitworth went the first four innings and suffered the loss before Kim Carter finished up. The JDCC defense committed six errors behind its two pitchers.
Game two was scoreless until the top of the fourth when the Lady Wildcats put up two runs on the scoreboard. Bishop State tacked on another run in the fifth and broke the game open with four runs in the top of the sixth.
Amanda Pullen was a perfect two-for-two at the plate for JDCC, but the rest of the Lady Warhawks lineup went just one-for-21. Kayla Galloway had the only other it for JDCC.
Three of the seven runs losing hurler Kim Carter allowed were unearned.
JDCC is home for ACCC south division doubleheaders Thursday against L.B. Wallace and Friday against Wallace State-Dothan. Both of those twinbills get underway at 1
