A new clock tower, a fountain and a larger gazebo are among the features proposed in plans for a renovated Brewton City Park.
Tree and Beautification Board Chairman Joe Gordy presented plans for the park to city council members Tuesday. An anonymous donor provided funds for the plans and will also provide the money for the renovations, Gordy said.
The preferred plan - which the council gave preliminary approval for on Tuesday - includes a clock tower on the northwest corner of the park as well as a fountain on the west side, near where the current gazebo now sits.
Gordy said the designer - James Crowe of CSA Designs - has recommended a larger gazebo be built on the southwest side of the park.
Walkways would enter the park on the Belleville and U.S. 31 sides. The Beautification Board has also asked Crowe to include steps from the clock tower into the park and a larger grassy area on the northeast side of the park, Gordy said.
The council's approval will allow the Beautification Board to continue with plans and determine how much money the park improvements will cost, Gordy said.
