The start of the national signing period for junior college basketball came and went without any activity by the Jefferson Davis Community College Warhawks Sunday.
Another rarity for the Warhawks is all six current freshmen, which includes guards Norman Griffin, Donald Smith, Quintereal Kelley, and Brandon Stewart along with forwards Maurice Edmondson and Justin Owens, have indicated they plan to return next season.
Point guard and center are JDCC's most pressing needs during the recruiting season.
Gainer would also like to pick up a big post player and shift the 6-8 Edmondson to a small forward spot.
Filling other positions is important, but not as critical.
Gainer does not expect a lot of recruiting activity until next month.
JDCC has an open tryout session May 5 at 1:30 p.m. for current seniors or already graduated high school players.
