City school board supports tax renewal vote

The Brewton City School Board passed a resolution Monday night supporting the upcoming referendum on a school tax renewal.
That resolution also allows the school board to spend tax dollars on materials to promote the tax vote, such as yard signs, Smith said.
Voters will go to the polls June 5 to decide whether to support a 1-mill countywide tax for both city and county schools.
Brewton city voters have already approved a 3-mill district tax for city schools, but county voters did not approve the 3-mill district tax for Escambia County Schools.
Both taxes - which have been on the books for about 80 years - will be on the June 5 ballot.
