Local actors appear in ‘Music Man'

The Greater Escambia Council for the Arts will be presenting Meredith Wilson's The Music Man at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Flomaton High School.
The show will feature the local talents of Joseph Billy, Jeffrey Huber, Sherrie Hursh, Dan Johnson, Ellen Johnson, Mike and Venia McMorris, Sharon Poulsen and Karl Robinson.
Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for children under 12. Used by permission of Music Theatre International.
Cast members include:
Karl Robinson (Harold Hill) - A long time member of GECA, Karl has been featured in many GECA performances. Some of his roles include Franklin D. Roosevelt in “Annie,” Fagin in “Oliver,” El Galo in “The Fantasticks,” and Harold Hill in “The Music Man.”
Karl works as the branch manager for the Atmore United Bank and has been a member of GECA for seven years.
Sherrie Hursh (Marion Paroo) - A long time member of GECA, Hursh starred in the first GECA production, “The Sound of Music,” in which she played Maria Von Trapp. She homeschools her children and will soon be taking over as president of the Homeschool Kids and Company.
Sharon Poulsen (Mama Paroo) - A veteran of GECA, Poulson has quickly become one of GECA's leading ladies. Some of her roles include Aunt Eller in “Oklahoma,” Alice Bean in “Titanic,” and Aunt March in “Little Women.”
Dan Johnson (Winthrop Paroo) - A fifth-grader at Brewton Middle School, Dan has grown up with GECA. His roles include Randy in “A Christmas Story” and a chorus member in many GECA productions. He is a member of the Brewton Middle School Band and the Brewton Middle School Singers. He enjoys drawing and writing, as well as playing with dogs. He is the son of Phil and Shea Johnson.
Mike McMorris (Mayor Shinn) - A more recent addition to GECA, Mike joined in 2005 when he played the role of John Jacob Astor in “Titanic.” He is the pastor at Robinsonville Baptist Church in Atmore and is married to Venia McMorris.
Jeffrey Huber (Marcellus Washburn) - A long time member of GECA, Jeffrey has
participated in many GECA productions. He has recently graduated from Pensacola Christian School and plans to attend Rosedale Bible College in the fall.
Ellen Johnson (Zaneeta Shinn) - A member of GECA since its inception, Ellen has participated in nearly every GECA production. This past year she also participated in the Alabama All-State SSA choir and the Alabama All-State Show Choir. She is a 10th grader at T.R. Miller High School in Brewton.
Joseph Billy (Tommy Djilas) - A 10th grader at T.R. Miller High School in Brewton, Joseph has been a member of GECA for many years. Some of his roles include Peter Pan in “Peter Pan” at the Pensacola Little Theatre, Jim in “To Kill a Mockingbird” at the Monroe
County Heritage Museum, Joseph in “Godspell,” Slim in “Oklahoma”, Flick in “A Christmas Story” and Boris Kolenkhov in “You Can't Take It with You.” This past year, he participated in the Alabama All-State TTBB Choir at Samford University. He is also a member of the T. R. Miller Singers.
Emily Moore (Ethel Toffelmier) - Emily has performed with GECA for many years. Some of her roles include Beth in “Little Women,” Ermengarde in “Hello, Dolly,” Stewardess in “Titanic,” Rose Seller in “Oliver,” and Animal in “Winnie the Pooh.” The youngest of six children, she is the daughter of Harry and Joanne Moore. She is in the 10th grade and is homeschooled. Emily enjoys singing, and she also plays the violin as well as the piano.
Dana Hursh (Amaryllis) - Having grown up on stage, Dana has participated in many GECA productions. Dana is in the fourth grade and is homeschooled by her mother, Sherrie Hursh. She made her debut on the stage when she was just 18 months old, carrying a diaper across the stage in “Lil' Abner.”
