TRM graduate adds Ph.D. to list of honors

Brewton native Johnnie Byrd Jr. recently became a doctor for the second time.
Byrd, a 1994 top ten T.R. Miller graduate, recently completed course requirements at the University of Chicago to add Ph.D. to the M.D. license he already held.
Byrd, who is married to Rikkisha, has one son, Khalib, who is six years old. He is the son of Betty Watts of Brewton.
Byrd received academic honors awards from the Brewton Rotary Club and was a member of the National Honor Society for three years while at T.R. Miller High School.
He graduated from Moorehouse College in Atlanta with a bachelor's degree in biology and began attending the University of Chicago following his graduation there.
Byrd expressed words of thanks for his opportunities to family members Johnny Byrd Sr., Coretha Turner, the late Joseph McMillan, Bennie Lee McMillan and Conchita Watts. Others Byrd chose to thank were Elaine Cato at First National Bank. Allie Snowden Moody, Susie Binion, Beatrice Lewis and Tommy Quick.
Byrd and his family currently reside in Chicago.
