A Brewton babysitter is facing charges of driving under the influence following a wreck last week on Ridge Road in Brewton.
Charges have been levied against Tara Martinez, 24, of Brewton following an accident that injured two children she was babysitting at the time of the wreck, Alabama State Trooper spokeswoman Doris Teague said Thursday.
The 7:30 a.m. accident on April 18 occurred on Ridge Road in the Springhill Community. Witness at the scene said the 1996 Pontiac Martinez was driving left the road and flipped several times before landing upside down. The accident left 14-month-old Hallie Crumpton and her 2-year-old brother, Cameron Crumpton, injured.
Hallie was taken by LifeFlite to Sacred Heart Hospital where she remained in intensive care for two days. She was released from the hospital on April 18 but she remains under the care of a neurologist, according to the child's grandmother, Angie Humphries.
Cameron was transported to D.W. McMillan Hospital in Brewton, where he was treated for minor cuts and bruises and was released late on the day of the accident.
Witnesses at the scene said Cameron was not restrained in the vehicle, however Hallie was restrained in a child carseat at the time of the accident.
Trooper Jimmy Dean was the investigating officer following the accident.
