It was the desire to be a part of a program with current success as well as tradition that attracted Allen Burgess to the T.R. Miller High School athletic program. It is a desire for other challenges in life that will take Burgess elsewhere.
Burgess served two years as an assistant coach for Tigers football coach Jamie Riggs. He filled the same role with baseball coach Jim Hart.
Burgess was the Tigers' quarterbacks coach in 2005 before he switched over to receivers coach this past season. He worked with the T.R. Miller secondary in each of the last two seasons.
Burgess said he had a simple message for his secondary.
Burgess said he made great strides as a coach from his first to second season with the program.
Burgess was not originally supposed to have been involved with the T.R. Miller baseball program. Burgess was originally hired as a track assistant coach. He was transferred over to baseball when longtime T.R. Miller football and baseball assistant coach Jack Whigham took the head football coaching position at Opp.
While Burgess was an assistant for Hart at the varsity level, he was the head coach for the junior varsity team.
Burgess has had a highly active role in T.R. Miller's Fellowship of Christian Athletes organization during his two years at the school.
Burgess hoped to do even more with FCA.
Burgess admits he is not sure which direction life is going to take him.
