Mrs. Harriet Carpenter Salter, 90, died April 30, 2007. She was a native and resident of McKenzie. She attended Graceland College, Iowa; graduated from Montevallo University and earned her masters degree from Auburn University. She was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority and taught school in Fairhope, McKenzie and Industry, Ala. She later worked in the Butler County Central office in Greenville. She was very involved with her church and served as an Elder in The Community of Christ Church in McKenzie. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Thomas Tillman; her third husband, Gomer Miller; a daughter, Harriet Ann Tillman; a grandson, Chad Tillman; brother-in-law, Saxon L. Wise; a foster sister, Ruth Herrington Ford and a nephew.
She is survived by Heamon Salter of McKenzie; two sons, James S. (Celeste) Tillman of Orlando, Fla. and Rod (Kathy) Tillman of Mobile; two daughters, Fairye Ellen (Michael) Morley of Fayetteville, Ga., and Emily Marie (Jimmy) Snyder of Fort Payne; a sister, Jessie Mae Kinard; foster brother, Billy Ray Ammons; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, May 4, at the Community of Christ Church in McKenzie with Elder Robert Watford and Elder Allen Odom officiating. Burial followed at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in McKenzie with Johnson Funeral Home directing.
