Only five local girls competed at the Class 4A state track meet held at Gulf Shores Friday and Saturday, but each scored points.
The best local performance was turned in by T.R. Miller junior Crystal Higdon, who was runner-up in the 3200 meters in a time of 12:35.43. The Lady Tigers double placed in that event when Amber Nelson came in sixth with a time of 13:32.33. Higdon scored in her other individual event when she placed eighth in the 1600 meters at 6:03.75.
Higdon and Nelson were also part of T.R. Miller's seventh place 3200-meter relay team, which also included Laferria Hetherington and Deaundra Hetherington. They teamed up for a time of 11:27.44.
W.S. Neal's only entry, Rachel Davis, posted a third place finish in the long jump at 17-0. Davis had the lead going into the final attempt, but was passed by Escambia County's Kiara Henry at 17-3 and Brittany Lewis of Central-Tuscaloosa at 17-2 3/4.
