One will have to look long and hard to find any dust under Katelin Hulley's feet. She is seldom in one place long enough for it accumulate.
Hulley has had a dual athletic role at W.S. Neal High School where she has started for the Lady Blue Eagles volleyball team and been a cheerleader for the football and basketball teams. The double workload has not taken anything away from Hulley's classroom work where she has been named as W.S. Neal's valedictorian for the 2006-07 school year.
Hulley said doing volleyball and cheerleading at the same time was not easy.
Hulley said there were times she considered dropping one of her fall athletic activities.
I wanted a little lighter load
in the spring because the rest of the school year is so busy for me.”
W.S. Neal cheerleader sponsor Ava Crutchfield credits Hulley with being the glue that held the squad together last summer when health reasons forced former W.S. Neal cheerleader sponsor Jennie Salter to retire.
Hulley said math and science are her two favorite subjects.
Hulley credits her teachers at W.S. Neal for pushing her to excel as a student.
Hulley said current W.S. Neal volleyball coach Britney Shelly, Salter and Crutchfield have all had huge roles in her high school life.
Shelly, who coached Hulley last fall, said Hulley made a quick impact with her volleyball team.
In addition to her athletic involvement, Hulley's other school activities include National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta Math Club, Neal Eagle Ambassadors and senior class secretary.
Hulley is proud to call W.S. Neal home, something she had not had much of prior to high school.
Hulley plans to attend Auburn University this fall where she will be studying biomedical sciences and majoring in pre-pharmacy.
