Mrs. Lois Evelyn Ashburn Goneke, 80, of Forrest Avenue, died Wednesday, May 9, 2007, at a local hospital after a brief illness. She was a native of Yadkin County, N.C. and a long-time resident of East Brewton. She was a retired operator with Bell South Corporation and was a member of East Brewton Church of God. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Goneke.
She is survived by a daughter, Stevie Jo (Wayne) Martin of East Brewton; three sisters, Irene Crabb of Harmony, N.C., Georgia Current of Hamptonville, N.C., and Hazel Holt of Panama City, Fla.; and one grandson, Greg Darby of East Brewton.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 12, at 11 a.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. James Sturdivant and the Rev. Lee Cadenhead officiating. Burial followed at Zion Hill Cemetery with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing. Pallbearers were Bobby Johnson, Dwayne Carroll, Greg Joyner, Ricky Current, Sammy Nelson, Gary Gibson and Elijah J. Smith.
